Christipher Marlowe by red-gold-sparks Christipher Marlowe by red-gold-sparks
Another page from my historical figures sketchbook. I have to say, I like Marlowe's version of "Faust" but Goethe's version is my favorite. However, Marlowe's life is so mysterious in some many regards, I can't help but find him fascinating.
In ball point pen and cut paper.

Verrry nice! I love this "historical figures sketchbook" series of yours. This looks just like Marlowe's portrait, perfect!

Thank you. This was a hard one, partly because his hair is so crazy...and I toned it down for this picture.

That's exactly what I thought! :D I even cut all of the buttons out of shiny gold paper, for added effect, but you can't really tell in the scan. :(

Haha, funny story about that shirt - when I was 16, I got a biography of Shakespeare for my birthday. I was a big fan of Shakespeare and Marlowe (I still am) so I was all excited, and showing my friends the pictures, and this exchange occurred:

Me: (showing friends Chandos portrait of Shakespeare) So, they think this is a portrait of Shakespeare...
Friend: He looks like a pirate!
Me: What?! No, he does not! That's Shakespeare! You can't say he looks like a pirate!
Friend #2: Yeah, he totally does, though. I think it's the earring.
Me: (turning to portrait of Marlowe) Fine, do you think he looks like a pirate, too?
Friend #2: Actually, I think he looks like a clown.
Me: A CLOWN?!?!?! Kit Marlowe?!
Friend #1: Yeah, it's all those big buttons...

XD. So now I am unable to see that portrait without thinking of that story.
